I recently re-discovered an invaluable internet resource for the running community: Ozzie Gontang not only has a tremendous amount of knowledge about the body, how it works, and running, but he has been sharing that knowledge with thousands and thousands for many years.
When I started my running "career" over 10 years ago about the only place (from what I could tell) for runners to congregate on the internet was the rec.running Usenet group. Ozzie not only shared his experiences and knowledge, but he also maintained the rec.running FAQ. While my running continued, I fell away from being active in the internet running community, until recently when I started engaging in the Runner's World forums.
The other day I remembered Ozzie and, thanks to Google, he was easy to find. Check out the Mindful Running information on his website. Ozzie has really assembled some great stuff.

Jim,
ReplyDeleteJust came across your post. Many thanks for your kind words.
Still running much slower while still maintaining a high cadence. Have been sharing the work of Romanov's Pose Method and Dreyer's ChiRunning. 2010 will be the 35th year of the San Diego Marathon Clinic, where I continue to teach an intro class to form and style using the principles of Pose and Chi.
I'll check out your thoughts and ideas. I haven't been active on many forums. Have been working with several in an attempt to share my folklore on proper running form and style. With Pose and Chi and 30 years of my own championing of ball/heel and a quick cadence, the acceptance is slow....and steady.
When we no longer see the MBTI shoes or thick heeled running and walking shoes and the standard is thin soled running shoes because people now run lightly on/over the surface of the earth, then mankind will have learned that running is graceful and light and can be taught.
In health and on the run,
Ozzie Gontang
